Tanjung Rhu Resort: sun, sea and sand Part 1

The year end school holiday was fast approaching. My boys were itching to go for a holiday and my wife who had just completed her exam really want to let off some steam. It was in October 2012 that I started to surf the net looking for a good place for us to go. We more or less know that Pulau Langkawi will be the destination, only the hard part was looking for a lodging. When browsing Tripadvisor for pictures and reviews, I was immediately attracted to a feature of the Tanjung Rhu Resort. It has a natural sand bar which appear during low tide! My wife was mesmerize with that natural occurence as well. Add that to white sandy beaches and the good reviews from previous guests, we were immediately sold! So, when we got to know that Tanjung Rhu Resort was offering a 30% discount on the room rate (they were upgrading) we quickly made room reservation for a 3 days 2 nights stay there. We took the all inclusive package because we do not plan to venture out of the resort. Total relaxation!
So, here we go...

Day 1:
The date was 13/11/2012. It was a beautiful Tuesday morning. We reached Alor Setar the night before, staying at my parent's house before heading to Kuala Kedah Jetty early the next morning. If you want to know the ferry charges and contact number for the ferry operators, you can click here.

We are at Kuala Kedah Jetty. Waiting for our turn to board the ferry.

That was our ferry (Lada Dua). Huge, with 3 4 3 seating arrangement.

The ferry ride went smoothly. The water was calm. There was no need for us to reach for the barf bag. Alhamdulilah.

The barf bag made it onto my son's head instead. Playful lad.

Reached Langkawi. We were now at Kuah Jetty. Waiting for the transportation arranged by Tanjung Rhu Resort. Yup, the resort will arrange pick up from either the airport or the jetty to their resort. On that day we were picked up by a huge and luxurious Mitsubishi Grandis. Niceeee...

The trip from the jetty to the resort took roughly 30 minutes. When getting nearer to the resort, you will notice that both sides of the road was lined with lush Pine trees (it is called Rhu in Malay). I'm guessing that is why the area is called Tanjung Rhu.
Upon reaching the resort, my wife and I were really impressed when the staffs opened the car door and greeted us by our names. Attention to detail! Superb. After a quick briefing, we were then guided to our room.

And that was the view that awaits us at Tanjung Rhu. I took that picture from the lobby area. Seems unreal.

Our stay should be in room 805. But, we reached the resort early (before 12pm). That room was far from ready for us to occupy. And yes, the staff (I really cannot remember his name) informed us beforehand that the room might not be ready since we were there early. There was a room a floor lower which was 30 minutes away from being ready. So we were offered that room (room 803) instead. For us, with children in tow, it made more sense to stay a floor lower because that block does not have a service lift. We were staying in the Bayu Senja room.

Sooooo...room will only be ready in half an hour. Need to kill some time. We decided to check out the resort.

Breathtaking view. Even the sky seems different here in comparison to the city.

They surely can't wait for some playtime at the beach.

Mango juices to quench our thirst.

With the all inclusive package, you can order food and drink anytime, anywhere. Bliss!

Our room was ready!!

The living room. Check in was done there. No counter check in!

Another view of the living room. The resort provided welcoming drinks (it was inside the black container) and some fruits. Note the rolled towel.

A welcoming note from the resort. No nudity on the beach please!

A list of things to do.

Since the resort was undergoing some upgrade, guests were provided with complimentary activities. But, honestly, we never noticed any noise from the upgrading work. It was calm and quiet during our stay there.
We opted for the fish and eagle spotting. Do gave the resort an early confirmation of your participation, else you might miss it. Seats for that trip was limited. We would love to go for the Nature Walk, but due to our short stay, we were not able to do so. Maybe next time.

Hallway leading to the living room. On the left was the bathroom, hidden from sight by the wooden sliding door. Nice wood floorings. Sedap dipijak..
A view from the bath tub. The wooden window opens up to the sleeping area. That particular sleeping area was a add on since we were travelling with children. It was originally a lounge area with a sofa.
Generous amount of toiletries.
There was an aromatheraphy candle/oil, bathsalt and soap.
Towel hanger and a scale. I was nervous to go on the scale on our last day there. I believe that I gain a few kilos with all the good food around.
Plenty of towels...
Two wash basins.
Now to the sleeping areas.
Now that was the main sleeping area...with a king (or was it queen?) size bed.

The additional sleeping area which consists of two single beds. Note the large wooden sofa at the back. There was a flat screen TV as well, if you notice it...partially shown in the picture above.
For those who cannot go without their daily dose of caffeine, a coffee maker!

The room has two balconies. This was the view from the first balcony. Look at the lush foliage. Simply beautiful. The ground was well maintaned as well.

And this was the view from the other balcony. I'm out of words to describe it. Notice the purple flag? I will write on it on my subsequent post.
Lunch time! Decided to had lunch in our room. Feast your eyes on the delicious foods.

....it was time for a short nap.........
This post is getting way too long. I initially plan to separate the posts into 3 separate parts (for each day that we were there). But it seems like the first one is becoming too long. I might need to add a fourth part to it. So sorry folks. I will try to complete all within the next couple of weeks...or months...
So stay tune....

  3. Hi, can I know what is the price range for the food in the resort's restaurant? I am deciding between the all inclusive package or just the room as I am only travelling with 1 child.

    1. Hi...the price for food can be expensive. It can easily be more than a hundred ringgit for the 4 of us (me, my wife and our two children) per meal. We prefer the all inclusive package. It end up the cheaper option for us.....
