The Place by Deco - Steakhouse di Alor Setar, Kedah

Steakhouse di Alor Setar

Alhamdulillah, apabila dah cukup 90% adult population di Malaysia sudah lengkap divaksinasi, larangan merentas negeri mula ditarik balik. Terasa lega, gembira bila dapat peluang untuk pulang ke kampung halaman. Dalam tahun 2021 ni, I went back to my hometown only once, iaitu pada tahun baru. Sejak larangan rentas negeri ditarik balik, I went back for a further 3 times. Tak cukup, tapi saya cuba manfaatkan peluang yang ada. 

During my recent trip back to Alor Setar, saya dah buat plan untuk bawa mak, abah and my family anak beranak untuk keluar dinner bersama. Dah agak lama saya take notice of this particular steakhouse along Jalan Langgar di Alor Setar tu. Namanya The Place by Deco. "What is a steakhouse?" you may ask. Steakhouse ni ialah restaurant yang specializes in serving steaks. Dah lama teringin nak cuba wagyu beef. Been hearing plenty of good things about wagyu steak, especially from my adik dan abang. Both of them dah berkali-kali dapat peluang untuk cuba waygu steak tu. Kat The Place by Deco tu ler adik saya and her family went to dine. Sedap katanya steak di situ. Tak boleh jadi, nak kena try ni. So ke situlah tempatnya yang saya nak bawa family untuk dinner.

When we went there for the first time, it was packed. Full house. Penuh. Kami diberitahu yang kami perlu tunggu lebih kurang satu jam sebelum dapat masuk. I made a mistake of not making a reservation. Ingatkan boleh walk in jer.  Tak sangka restaurant The Place by Deco ni popular. It was a Saturday, malam, bila kami pergi tu. Memang ramai yang masih menunggu di luar untuk masuk. After a brief discussion, we decided to leave. Cancel plan dinner untuk hari tu. Tapi sebelum balik, I made a reservation for the next day. Menurut staff di situ, malam selalunya ramai orang. Jadi saya decided untuk reserve slot jam 5:30 petang. It will be an early dinner for us.

Keesokkan harinya, kami sampai on time. Tak ramai orang di situ. Di area where we were seated, kami sekeluarga sahaja yang ada di situ, which was good. Tak risau sangat especially time Covid ni. Boleh dine-in dengan tenang. Suasana dan deco di luar dan di dalam restaurant sangat menarik. Industrial themed, which I like a lot. A theme that I tried but failed to implement for my current house (kena kompromi dengan wife. We settled for minimalist instead, which I also like). Tempatnya bersih, air-conditioned. Pleasant indeed. Banyak area within the compound and inside of the building yang instagram friendly. Cantik.









We ordered a few different dishes on that day. The plan was to share the dishes among all of us. Dengan cara tu, dapat la merasa lebih dari satu jenis masakan untuk setiap orang. Tak nak la makan sejenis jer. Untuk steak cuts, staff kat situ bawa saya to where they simpan all of the cuts. Semuanya dalam freezer. Bermacam cuts ada. Pilih jer yang mana berkenan di hati. Harga untuk setiap cuts pun ada di situ. Senang untuk pilih mengikut budget masing- masing. Nampak tak marbling of those wagyu cuts? Beautiful.

Gucci Nachos

Ini jadi appetizer kami. Fried tortilla chips dengan pomodoro sauce, pickles, cheese and beef. Kami suka yang ini, a lot. But saya prefer kalau tortilla tu diasingkan dari pomodoro sauce dan cheese tu. Sebab bila semuanya bercampur, tortilla jadi soggy, lembik. I do understand memang ini cara masakannya. So what I did was to pick those tortillas on the sides, not in the middle. Yang kat tepi tu masih ada bahagian yang masih keras dan crunchy. Maybe next time kalau ada peluang ke sana lagi, saya akan minta they asingkan tortillas dengan sauce tu. Letak di dalam pinggan yang berbeza. Cicah je nanti. Boleh ke camtu? Boleh kut.


Chicken Popcorn

Ini khas for my youngest son. Chicken popcorn ni under kids punya meal. Nasib baik di sana tu ada serve chicken. Bukannya apa, takut my youngest ni tak nak makan yang lain selain ayam. Jadi backup for him. That chicken popcorn tu tadi best eaten semasa masih panas-panas. Ranggup. Us adults pun suka.

Mac and Cheese

I tried a spoonful of the mac and cheese. It had a burnt taste. Mungkin baked for too long kut. My sons liked it though. Selera masing-masing.

Habanero Chicken Burger

Burger ni was HUGE. Jenuh kami share untuk nak habiskan. Order 2 pulak tu. The deep fried chicken tasted like chicken chop which was not a bad thing. Tasty.


Salmon Teriyaki Pasta

The salmon was great. No complain at all. I cannot comment on the pasta though. I did not had any. I went straight for the salmon and totally forgotten about the pasta. My eldest son said that it was tasty, so there you go. I take his words for it.

Wagyu Ribeye

Wagyu ribeye ni sampai earlier than wagyu sirloin. All my steaks I ordered as well done ya. Bila first time rasa tu, I was honestly feeling a bit underwhelmed sebab steak tu tak tender as per my expectation. Kan ramai yang cakap, wagyu beef ni lembut. Walaupun texturenya better dari any other steaks yang saya pernah makan di Malaysia ni, cuma I was expecting wagyu steak tu lebih tender. Don't get me wrong, steak wagyu ribeye di sana tu memang sedap, cuma saya ada expectation yang waygu beef tu lebih lembut. Then it struck me that beef punya cuts ada bahagian-bahagiannya. Ada bahagian yang lebih lembut dari bahagian yang lain. Bukan semuanya sama. It was proven bila I had a taste of the wagyu sirloin steak. Memang ada beza dari segi texture dan rasanya. Verdict? Sedap, but saya recommend to go for wagyu sirloin cuts.

Wagyu Sirloin

Oh boy, they made this steak to perfection. If I ever go back to this place, I will definitely will be ordering the sirloin cuts again. Berbaloi. Lembut and juicy. Better than the ribeye. Ini bagusnya bila dapat mencuba variety of cuts.

Rack of Lamb

Ini was a surprise. Dalam anticipation nak makan wagyu beef, tak sangka yang rack of lamb ni pun ya Allah sedap sungguh. Somewhat stealing the spotlight from those wagyu beefs. Lembutnya daging dia. Memang terkejut bila cuba rack of lamb ni. It was marinated well, and deserve another round of highlighting how tender the meat was. Sangat sedap, best. Selain wagyu sirloin tadi, ini pun saya recommend untuk anda cuba. Jangan tak cuba bila ke sana tu.



Kalau ada yang berminat nak cuba masakan di situ, boleh ler start google. Menu, contact number, address, semua info ada. Tapi, jangan lupa satu perkara. Buat ler reservation sebelum pergi. Else, takut kena tunggu di luar. Kalau nak cuba walk-in, pegi ler time off-peak. Restaurant buka pukul 4 petang, jadi boleh cuba time tu sebab malam selalunya penuh.
